Kimberly Devitt

Marketing Manager
Corkcicle

Fall 2016

Favorite Project

One of my favorite assignments was for Emerging Technology. The project required me to select a brand and apply emerging technology in a comprehensive marketing campaign. I selected TOMS and created a campaign that leveraged virtual reality and mobile technology to showcase the communities that benefited from the organization's donations. Imagine my surprise when I visited Surf Expo recently in Orlando and saw TOMS using the very VR technology (Oculus Rift) that I had concepted for my project. Goose bumps!

My Career

I feel so fortunate to say that I have my dream job! I currently serve as marketing manager for Corkcicle, where I am responsible for ensuring the brand is effectively managed and communicated across all online and offline channels. This involves working with our Brand Manager to develop marketing and merchandising strategies for both consumer and trade channels. I especially enjoy leveraging social media to share the brand’s story with existing fans and future customers. Not only do I love my job, but I also love the people that I get to work with every day. I have the most incredible colleagues in the world.

Hobbies

Boating, traveling, running, wakeboarding, writing, napping

Hometown:

I was born in Los Angeles, CA, but grew up in Winter Park, FL. Though I certainly consider myself a Floridian, I’ll always be a Cali girl at heart.

High School:

Lake Highland Preparatory School, Orlando, FL

Undergraduate:

University of Florida, 2012 BS of Public Relations, Summa Cum Laude

Expected graduation:

December 2016

University highlights, achievements and awards:

In the two years since I first began my master’s program, I’ve traveled to more than 22 states and six countries, served on the Board of Directors for PRSA, accepted a full-time offer as marketing manager for Corkcicle, managed various campaigns for my freelance clients, adopted three dogs and even got engaged to my high school sweetheart! Despite a very hectic schedule, I have kept school a priority. Though it certainly hasn’t been easy, I am proud to say that I have achieved my goal of earning straight A’s throughout the program.

Current Employment:

I chose to attend UF because…

I selected the University of Florida to pursue my master’s degree because of its national reputation and impressive post-grad offerings. I enjoy student-to-student interaction with my peers across the United States, learning from their backgrounds in an amazing array of industries. The online aspect allows the flexibility for me to continue my job and earn my degree at the same time. It’ a win-win. Go Gators!

My favorite thing about UF is…

The variety of course offerings and caliber of its professors. Also, the Gator Nation is EVERYWHERE!

When I have free time, I spend it doing…

Who has free time? Just kidding. I enjoy working out and spending time with my fiancé Daniel and our three dogs. We love all types of water sports, especially wakeboarding and wake surfing.

My favorite class is…

Digital Storytelling! I loved learning so many new and innovative ways to communicate a brand’s story through digital means. Steve Johnson had also been an instructor when I studied abroad in Italy in 2011, so it was fun to study under the guidance of a familiar face!

My favorite place to work on homework is…

The swinging chair that my fiancé’s mother gifted to me for my birthday. It hangs on my favorite tree in our backyard!

My favorite professor is…

This is a trick question! There are too many incredible professors to select just one favorite.

If I could have dinner with anyone, I would choose…

Bethany Hamilton! Bethany is a Corkcicle ambassador who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting during a recent photo shoot in Melbourne. However, I’d love to enjoy a leisurely dinner with Bethany and learn more about her life. She and I are the same age, so I vividly remember when she was attacked by a shark while surfing and lost her arm when she was 14. She is now an internationally ranked pro surfer, as well as a wife and mother. Her perseverance is truly inspiring. Her social media is awesome, too!

If I knew I could not fail, I would…

Select the winning lottery numbers so I could donate to my favorite charities and keep the rest for travel excursions.

If money was not an issue, I would love to…

Travel the world with my family and friends!

After graduation, I plan to…

Throw a huge party. Oh, and apply my newly-acquired knowledge in a professional setting.
