MMC 6936 - Capstone: Digital Journalism and Multimedia Storytelling

3 Credits


Students will develop a capstone project using a variety of multimedia tools, including writing, audio, video, social media and more. Students will complete a work of journalism from the pitch/idea stage to the final edits with a goal of having work published in a professional venue. Emphasis will be on in-depth, immersive reporting and advanced storytelling skills.

 

In this course, students will learn to:

  • Develop a publishable long-form story through reporting, interviewing, storytelling, writing, editing, and technical skills.
  • Analyze journalistic, digital, and social media challenges.
  • Analyze audience profiles (personas).
  • Create stories for a target audience.
  • Evaluate others’ work for publication.
  • Prepare a story pitch.
  • Practice professional ethics and collaboration.
