MMC 6936 - Reporting and Writing for Digital, Audio and Video

This course blends foundational reporting and writing skills with the multimedia production techniques required in today’s digital media landscape. Students develop content across written, audio, video, and visual formats while learning how to pitch, produce, and distribute stories for digital, social, and broadcast platforms.

Emphasis is placed on audience-focused, community-based reporting, with projects designed to strengthen storytelling across multiple media channels. Students gain hands-on experience creating and promoting content tailored to specific audiences and platforms.

In this course, students will learn to:

  • Demonstrate the latest reporting, interviewing, storytelling, writing and technical skills for journalism, digital and social media.
  • Pitch stories to news outlets.
  • Conduct relevant research, find and interview sources, and present stories in a clear and concise manner.
  • Demonstrate advanced interview techniques.
  • Apply relevant skills of each production medium (audio, video, written)
