Thomas McCloskey, Ph.D., is an instructor in the Master of Arts in Mass Communication program in the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida. Prior to joining UF, Thomas was a Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Maryland. In that position, he directed the Graduate Communication Fellows program and supported the Graduate Writing Center. Thomas also coached a nationally competitive speech and debate team and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer English Teacher in Ukraine.

Thomas holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Maryland with an emphasis in Rhetoric & Political Culture. His dissertation research focused on the development of nationalism in the former Soviet Union and how the ongoing Ukrainian conflict reflects tensions between the myths and memories of the Soviet Union and a larger push towards European integration and internationalism. Thomas also holds an M.A. in Communication from California State University Long Beach, and a B.A. in Politics from Willamette University. Thomas resides in Silver Spring, MD with his wife Laura, daughter June, and son August.
