Stephen Adams isn’t a UF alum, but he has coached and hired countless Gators over the years.

A graduate of Ithaca College, Stephen studied journalism and minored in political science. He first worked as a TV reporter and fill-in anchor at CBS affiliate WBNG in Binghamton, NY and later at NBC affiliate KCEN-TV in Waco, TX.

After some time on-air, he made the leap into leadership as the Texas station’s digital content manager. That led to digital executive producer and managing editor roles at CBS affiliate WTSP in Tampa, FL.

Today, he’s a talent acquisition partner for TEGNA – which owns 64 news brands across the United States. It’s the largest owner of Big Four affiliates (NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX) in the Top 25 markets among independent station groups and reaches roughly 40 percent of TV households nationwide.

Stephen is the co-lead of the company’s Producer-in-Residence Program, which trains 50 journalists annually for positions as show or digital/social producers.

He lives in St. Petersburg, Florida and frequently makes stops to mentor students at UF’s Innovation News Center.
